3.8 Methodological Developments

Innovation and advancement in laboratory methods are becoming increasingly more important as we continue to learn more about the Earth´s interior through various geophysical observations. Characterization of materials, either at ambient or extreme experimental conditions, must be done more accurately in order to form physical and dynamic models of the Earth with fewer uncertainties. Our aims include (1) the improvement of existing techniques, whether it be, for example, expansion of pressure and temperature limits or through better means of data analysis, and (2) development of new techniques, either complementary to other methods or those that offer new avenues of research to explore. We summarize our latest developments below.
